I boot the ERP5 live CD and it ends up in
a login prompt.
Do you mean the login prompt of Linux on the console? Doesn't it start Xa login prompt.

I tried root/root; root/erp5; root/erp5cd; erp/erp; erp5/erp5 ...
but none of them let me login.
Try root/erp5_root.but none of them let me login.
